mentor hours= 2.

Yesterday, I went to meet up with my mentor in Kaiser. Our session was around 3-5 at the optometry office in Kaiser. In the beginning of the session she introduced me around the different rooms where patients are held during checkups for the eye. Each room had their own little eye chart at which are one of the first tests patients must go through to see how well their vision is. At first I thought it was pretty easy because I thought you  just had to write down how far they cannot see. However, there are a lot of information you must have to write down when testing a patients eye sight. In the office there were alot of the high chairs and some sort of eye machine that also checks your eyesight and also checks if you have eye diseases such as cataracts. Hours with my mentor at Kaiser.

So far, I have worked 4 hours with my mentor. Two hours each day. The first time I met up with my mentor was at Kaiser Permante in Daly City. On the first day we talked about the basic skills and functions of the eye and what she does as a medical assistant in Opthamology. It's usually on rare occasions that her job gets really busy. During the day she usually fills out appointments for patients who are getting their check up with their eye or if there is some certain emergency that opthamologists have to check. As I was watching, I noticed that I must always be attentive and organized around my desk in order for the patience to get what they made an appointment for.

On the second day, I watched her separate files from her job, and to put them in certain places so that their is a certain history of imformations that the patients when in and what they made and appointment for. You must also have to have good speaking skills because her job requires talking to people every single day. I have a problem with people in public in certain levels so hopefully the more hours I have with my mentor, the more my speaking skills with people get  better.

At first, being at my mentors job was somewhat overwhelming because I didn't know what to expect. It seems that you must know what you are doing and you must learn a lot of things so that when patients ask questions, you would know how to respond to them. Not only did we have to learn various amount of things that her job requires, but you also must have to know a lot about the building you are working in, and where certain things are held at in case patients have any questions about where they need to go to in order to get what they need.
