Since I did not have enough time to blog about my time I met up with my mentor, I am going to put the rest of my hours in one blog instead of doing separately. Although I did not have enough time to blog, at the end of each time I met up with her, she made me a do a reflection about what I did so I was able see how much I progressed from beginning to end.

Today, I met up with my Ellysa, and we discussed the many different diseases people can recieve through the eye, we talked about diseases such as cataracts, glacoma, . She wanted me to educate myself before I was to shadow her because it was always best to know these certain facts and how people can get that, and how to treat them if they can be treated. I learned cataracts is when there is a cloudiness inside the eyelense, and is usually one of the common causes of blindness. Glacoma is another severe eye disease that is damaged in a particular pattern. There are many other eye diseases, and my mentor told me I should know about that first so I am more well-known about them and because they are good to know in general.

On Tuesday, I was able to meet up with my mentor. We discussed the different diseases I searched up the previous session I had with her before. And we also discussed how they happen. We mainly talked about what do I have to major in after high school and what classes I need to take to become an opthamologist. As an opthamologist, I must be able to complete the following requirements: 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and one more year of internship. The requirements were overwhelming to me because it seemed like there would be a lot I would have to go through to get to where I need to be. I found my session with my mentor quite useful because she was able to take the time to not only educate me but to tell me exactly what I need to know and do.

I met up with my mentor, and I finally got to shadow her & her patients. Before I did she notified me that Kaiser Permanente is very strict and that they don't allow students to do anything else but to shadow. I was a little bit disappointing with it because I was looking forward with helping Ellysa with her patients and to do a little bit of she does. Although I wasn't able to have my turn with the patients, she did in fact tell me that shadowing her is all I need to know to understand exactly what she does without even having to be in her position. This made me realize that I have to pay attention carefully and to pay attention to the small details very closely. I was only able to complete two hours with her today because she had to leave early.
