Over all.

Since I did not have enough time to blog about my time I met up with my mentor, I am going to put the rest of my hours in one blog instead of doing separately. Although I did not have enough time to blog, at the end of each time I met up with her, she made me a do a reflection about what I did so I was able see how much I progressed from beginning to end.

March 10, 2013: 4 hours; 9 hours total.
Today, I met up with my Ellysa, and we discussed the many different diseases people can recieve through the eye, we talked about diseases such as cataracts, glacoma, . She wanted me to educate myself before I was to shadow her because it was always best to know these certain facts and how people can get that, and how to treat them if they can be treated. I learned cataracts is when there is a cloudiness inside the eyelense, and is usually one of the common causes of blindness. Glacoma is another severe eye disease that is damaged in a particular pattern. There are many other eye diseases, and my mentor told me I should know about that first so I am more well-known about them and because they are good to know in general.

March 12, 2013: 4 hours; 13 hours total.
On Tuesday, I was able to meet up with my mentor. We discussed the different diseases I searched up the previous session I had with her before. And we also discussed how they happen. We mainly talked about what do I have to major in after high school and what classes I need to take to become an opthamologist. As an opthamologist, I must be able to complete the following requirements: 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and one more year of internship. The requirements were overwhelming to me because it seemed like there would be a lot I would have to go through to get to where I need to be. I found my session with my mentor quite useful because she was able to take the time to not only educate me but to tell me exactly what I need to know and do.

April 2, 2013: 2 hours; 15 hours total.
I met up with my mentor, and I finally got to shadow her & her patients. Before I did she notified me that Kaiser Permanente is very strict and that they don't allow students to do anything else but to shadow. I was a little bit disappointing with it because I was looking forward with helping Ellysa with her patients and to do a little bit of she does. Although I wasn't able to have my turn with the patients, she did in fact tell me that shadowing her is all I need to know to understand exactly what she does without even having to be in her position. This made me realize that I have to pay attention carefully and to pay attention to the small details very closely. I was only able to complete two hours with her today because she had to leave early.

April 23, 2013: 5 hours, 20 hours total.
I did a total of 5 hours with my mentor today. By this time I got the the hang of her appointments with her pattients and how they work.

April 30, 2013: 5 hours, 25 hours total.
By this time I have hours with my mentor. She also decided to some other stuff to research on in my own time, which adds an additional set of hours to my over all. With a total of 27.

3hours=total 5 hours.

I wasn't able to meet up with my mentor this week due to personal reasons of her own, but I was able to meet up with her yesterday for a total of 3 hours. On Thursday she showed me simple things she does as a medical assistant. You have to sign in every day just like almost every job working in the medical industry. She made me separate different papers in alphabetical order and the appointment times in order so when it is time for a patients appointment to approach, the nurses are already to call out the names without having to organizing them. She made me do really easy things like organize certain papers together and put in on certain folders because she said every person who starts out working always starts off doing simple things. And as you get better with things that are easy is when you start to move up.

mentor hours= 2.

Yesterday, I went to meet up with my mentor in Kaiser. Our session was around 3-5 at the optometry office in Kaiser. In the beginning of the session she introduced me around the different rooms where patients are held during checkups for the eye. Each room had their own little eye chart at which are one of the first tests patients must go through to see how well their vision is. At first I thought it was pretty easy because I thought you  just had to write down how far they cannot see. However, there are a lot of information you must have to write down when testing a patients eye sight. In the office there were alot of the high chairs and some sort of eye machine that also checks your eyesight and also checks if you have eye diseases such as cataracts. As my mentor was touring me around I noticed that you must know a lot of information depending wo

Hours with my mentor at Kaiser.

So far, I have worked 4 hours with my mentor. Two hours each day. The first time I met up with my mentor was at Kaiser Permante in Daly City. On the first day we talked about the basic skills and functions of the eye and what she does as a medical assistant in Opthamology. It's usually on rare occasions that her job gets really busy. During the day she usually fills out appointments for patients who are getting their check up with their eye or if there is some certain emergency that opthamologists have to check. As I was watching, I noticed that I must always be attentive and organized around my desk in order for the patience to get what they made an appointment for.

On the second day, I watched her separate files from her job, and to put them in certain places so that their is a certain history of imformations that the patients when in and what they made and appointment for. You must also have to have good speaking skills because her job requires talking to people every single day. I have a problem with people in public in certain levels so hopefully the more hours I have with my mentor, the more my speaking skills with people get  better.

At first, being at my mentors job was somewhat overwhelming because I didn't know what to expect. It seems that you must know what you are doing and you must learn a lot of things so that when patients ask questions, you would know how to respond to them. Not only did we have to learn various amount of things that her job requires, but you also must have to know a lot about the building you are working in, and where certain things are held at in case patients have any questions about where they need to go to in order to get what they need.

Fiscal Cliff

Unlike the Stock Market Crash, the Fiscal cliff was a decline to the deficit budget. Due to increased taxes and reduced spending, the Fiscal Cliff could have started around this period of time. According to the CBO, they believe that from Fiscal years 2012- 2022, the econony will remain at a modest pace.

The republicans found that the Fiscal Cliff would be a down fall. According to the Congressional replublicans, agreeing to increases taxed as created them has damaged the Republican brand. They do not approve of this because it has caused killer waves that will land ashore around the year of 2014.
